Key Areas to check for Spiders in a Home

Spiders are tiny animals with eight long curvy legs that reside in and outside homes. Spiders enter homes through entry points like open windows, doors, broken ventilation, bad plumbing, cracks and crevices, and over dusty stuff for cases of relocation to a new home. After a good period of breeding, fully grown spiders are then visibly seen in the home premises.  A spiders’ special attributes, characteristics and pattern of their lifestyle make it so easy to identity them during an infestation in case you are confused or not certain of the pest. They live in quiet secluded parts of the house unlike most pests.

Take time and make tour in and around your house to study the gravity of your infestation. This should be done in the process of seeking professional help. Professional pest control companies find out more about the infestation through planned inspections in order to develop the right treatment plan for you that completely halts the pests.

Carefully search corners and ceilings

Almost all house ceilings are painted with bright colors that give a clear indication of the coverage of cobwebs. A cobweb is a triangulate mat like structure made by spiders and that is where they reside. Spiders use cobwebs as a defense weapon to trap and kill predators that access their web. They also use the web to capture their prey (ants, lizards, mosquitoes, flies) for food. The cobwebs on the walls is the most obvious sign of an infestation in your home which triggers you to check other areas too for spiders.

Dark and isolated areas

Spiders love their privacy and with those characteristics, they usually inhabit dark lonely spots in the house. They peacefully live in areas with absolutely little or no human interference like behind kitchen counters, under seats and beds, in locked up stores or rooms without good aeration. In this case, try to tilt the furniture that you suspect to check the magnitude of the infestation. Proper cleaning up or vacuuming completely curbs the manifestation.

Cluttered areas

Unlike other pests like mosquitoes, fleas, ants or bed bugs that keep roaming from room to room in the house, spiders love the peace and quiet provided by the cluttered areas. This explains why lots of spiders are found in attics, basements, rubbish heaps and stores. With the lot of things found in such places, a lot of moisture easily builds up that offers spiders a very good living condition to build their webs.

Firewood piles

Piles of firewood in compounds or backyards always harbor lots of spiders. Simply transfer the logs of wood from the damp place to a dry place to check for any infestation. The spiders are always hidden under the moist area of the firewood. This is a very comfortable habitat for these pests due to the moisture present on the lower part of the firewood. Such firewood should be disposed of or quickly used up for camp fires to get rid of the spiders.
